WATER

Water is a reoccurring motif in my practice. I have used it as symbols for the following: (a) to demonstrate the passing of time, (b) to reflect upon the journey migrants make to Australia and, in the case of salinity, (c)  as allegory for xenophobia.

1:24 of a second was created as a series of panels depicting flickering water. To experience it viewers are required to walk pass the set. The intention was to represent the aspirations of migrants as they made their journey across the ocean.

Water study NO.3 is part of a series depicting the salt water rushing up against the shoreline at Nightcliffe in Darwin. It is one of the most northern points of this country. I used the incoming tide as a metaphor for the xenophobic perception that migrants from across the ocean would erode the Australian way of life.
